It’s becoming essential to provide opportunities for their students to learn about the many cultures represented in america and the world around them. Studies have shown that by the year 2040 as surveyed by the U.S. census bureau, that â€Å"white non-hispanics will make up less than half of the school aged population† (Smith) Our country is ever growing and it doesn t seem right to exclude cultural education to students when our nation was built by immigrants. The program, if put in place, would concern itself with the study of Mexican-Americans, drawing upon a variety of fields such as history, sociology, and the arts. Having a program like this in schools would provide a positive learning environment for all st udents color through limiting feelings of prejudice and discrimination. I think the author s treatment of this topic was pretty straight forward although I wish she’d would have gone into some more detail about the program and how it would run functionally. She does however give you a basic idea and pushed the point that this is in no way an attempt to segregate student. It’s an attempt to build a stronger community and a richer learning environment. The diversity in our public schools is ever increasing, with this teachers are beginning to recognize the need to expand their classroom curriculum to include other cultures. Understanding diversity provides context for students and allows them to thrive in most social environments. They key to this understanding lies with support from administrative and teachers â€Å"sensitivity of the various cultures reflected in students populations,† (Smith) meanwhile maintaining an unbiased outlook. Obesity is a new â€Å"disease† which is brought on by our living habits. According to a survey called â€Å"Obesity and Overweight† done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), almost two thirds of 60 million American adults are obese or overweight in the United States. Although many Americans are well-educated and understand about the negative effects of obesity, many of them are not aware of the problem. Thus, the CDC reported that there are about 15% of children ages two to nineteen in the United States are currently obese and all of them are considered at risk of becoming obese in their adulthood (â€Å"Obesity and Overweight†). Apparently, the number of obese young people is significantly growing and it needs to be controlled. This research will emphasize on different problems about American eating habit, and things that lead us to childhood obesity. Moreover, some specific solutions will be provided in order to help parents to prevent thei r children from childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is an emergency threat to our public health. Vertical integration can take the form of forward or backward integration. Backward integration suggests a firm purchase its suppliers, as in the case of Ford Motor Company deciding to manufacture its own car radios. Forward integration; on the other hand, suggest that a manufacturer of components make the finished product. An example is Texas Instruments, a manufacturer of integrated circuits that also makes calculators and computers containing integral circuits. 6. 4. Keiretsu Networks Many large Japanese manufacturers have found a middle ground between purchasing from few suppliers and vertical integration. These manufacturers are often financial supporters of suppliers through ownership or loans. The supplier then becomes part of company coalition known as keiretsu. Members of the keiretsu are assured long-term relationships and are therefore expected to function as partners, providing technical expertise and stable quality production to the manufacturer. Members of the keiretsu can also have suppliers further down the chain, making second-and even third-tier supplier’s part of the coalition. 6. 5.
